For decades, patients have tried fighting double chins with creams, exercises and gimmick devices, all to no avail. No one wants to waste money on products that fail to deliver results.
But can anything fix your problem area so you can stop wearing turtlenecks and scarves all the time?
You don’t have to live with that extra layer of fatty tissue any longer, thanks to a new cosmetic treatment. Kybella®, a prescription medicine, targets the double chin area, getting rid of the fat. This safe, simple and cost-effective treatment is an excellent alternative to liposuction and other facial plastic surgery procedures.
How Does Kybella® Work?
Kybella® is an injectable medication that improves the appearance of a double chin. It’s the only injectable approved by the FDA for the treatment of moderate to severe fat below the chin.
How does Kybella® work? The drug itself is synthetic, but its active ingredient — deoxycholic acid — is bioidentical to a substance the body produces naturally to ease the breakdown and absorption of dietary fats.
When Kybella® is injected into the neck area, the fat cells essentially dissolve. The result is a noticeable reduction in the amount of fullness under the chin.
What Can You Expect from Kybella® Injections?
The Kybella® treatment involves multiple injections into the fat, using a tiny needle. The process is practically painless, and it typically takes only 15 to 20 minutes. In fact, many patients choose Kybella® because it injections can be received in a brief office visit. After the injections, you may feel some warmth or mild throbbing in your neck. However, those sensations typically fade within about 15 minutes, and are reduced with cold compresses.
Some patients need more than one Kybella® treatment to get the results they’re looking for. Patients typically require 2 to 4 injection sessions, spaced about four to six weeks apart, to eradicate a double chin. Once the fat cells are destroyed with Kybella®, no further treatment should be necessary.
How many Kybella® injections and sessions will you need? No two double chin profiles are the same, so no two patients will need the same number of Kybella® injections. Dr. Mobley and the Beauty Now team will tailor your treatment to the amount of submental fat you have and your desired chin profile.

FDA guidelines dictate that this injectable product may be used only for adults, and only in the double chin area. Scientists have not yet verified that the drug is safe or effective for younger patients or other areas of the body.
If you’re pregnant or breastfeeding, Kybella® injections will have to wait. Also, make sure to advise the team of any medications, medical conditions, prior neck treatments or surgeries you’ve had, as any of these may affect your treatment outcome.
Only trained and licensed cosmetic health care specialists like Dr. Mobley and the members of the Beauty Now team can administer Kybella®. In the wrong hands, this drug can cause serious side effects.
