In the world of cosmetic treatments, the term “dermal filler” is a broad one that describes a range of products. Used all over the face, fillers are found in the cheeks, temples, mouth, jawline and any other area of the face that’s sunken or lacking fullness.

At Beauty Now, we provide a wide range of dermal fillers for all our clients in need of them, from popular products like Botox and Dysport to Sculptra, Juvederm and many others. One of the key differences between some of these products is the active ingredient they use – there are a few possible here, each of which helps augment the face in slightly different ways. While certain of these ingredients are more common in our filler products than others, let’s take a look at the full range of dermal filler active ingredients available on the market today.

Hyaluronic Acid

Perhaps the single most common ingredient in modern dermal fillers is hyaluronic acid, is another element that occurs naturally in the body – the average human has about 15 grams of hyaluronan in their body. It’s another element commonly found in various connective tissues. It’s beneficial as a dermal filler for several reasons, not the least of which is your ability to easily dissolve it and move on if the filler doesn’t bring you the desired results.

Hydroxylapatite

In some cases, a similar product called hydroxylapatite will be used for severe winkles. This product usually isn’t the first choice, as it lasts between 12 and 18 months, but can be used for the right situations.

Polymethylmethacrylate

For those looking for more permanent solutions, this injectable product might be beneficial. It involves taking fat from another part of the body to use in injections, with immediate results accompanied by some downtime due to bruising and swelling. This is a treatment where you have to be very sure – it’s not very reversible and is considered relatively invasive.

Poly-L-lactic Acid

We generally inject this product twice, with 6 weeks in between, though patients can receive multiple vials until they achieve the look they want. It can be maintained with 1-2 vials per year, and results will often last as long as two years.
